Children are interviewed about their interests, hobbies, their expectations, and why they want an adult friend. A child’s participation in Friends is strictly voluntary. Staff will answer any questions about the waiting list, how volunteers are screened, and about any other concerns a parent may have. Waiting list families are invited to attend Friends events to familiarize them with
program staff, help keep open lines of communication, and provide children with exposure to community venues.
